Default Black Ball Coho Ferry Profile

Over a century ago the flag of the Black Ball Line was famous for its unfailing dependability. It is in that same tradition that Black Ball Transport and the vessel M.V.Coho takes pride in its record of reliable and prompt service. In the forty-seven years of service we have transported over 20 million p***engers and 5 million vehicles without losing a sailing due to bad weather.

Whether the traveler is visiting Victoria, capital of British Columbia, or heading north to experience the beautiful and pristine wilderness of Vancouver Island, or heading south to visit the Olympic Peninsula, Seattle, Oregon and California, our link is safe, reliable, and affordable.

The M.V. Coho is 341.6 feet long, has a breadth of 72 feet, a draft of 12.6 feet, twin 8-foot stainless propellers and twin rudders. She was originally powered by two Cooper-Bessemer's diesel engines rated at 2,080 BHP each. The Cooper-Bessemer's were replaced in 2004 with two General Motors Electro-Motive Division Main Propulsion Engines rated at 2,550 BHP each.
In addition to the engine refit, the M.V. Coho has undergone many improvements over the years, including additional seating, enlargement of the Coffee Shop, installation of a solarium, and a sewage treatment plant.
The M.V. Coho has a vehicle clearance of 14 feet, and a carrying capacity of 110 vehicles and 1,000 p***engers. She undergoes routine maintenance in dry-dock every year, is completely U.S. Coast Guard-approved and carries state-of-the-art lifeboat and evacuation systems meeting or exceeding all International SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) requirements.
