Lightbulb Iscomar ferry held by authorities

It is the second time the Carmen del Mar has been impounded since early July

The Development Ministry has again ordered the Carmen del Mar ferry which covers the route between Dénia and Ibiza to remain in port, after its owners, Iscomar, failed to inform the Maritime Authorities that the ship had hit a marker buoy when it was setting off from Ibiza early on Wednesday. The Alicante newspaper, Información, reports that the vessel is to remain in Ibiza until a new order comes allowing it to leave.

The ferry was held in port in Dénia in early July for health and safety reasons, after inspectors discovered cockroaches in the fridges of the ship’s kitchen, and only half its life rafts operational.

Iscomar are also the owners of the Don Pedro cargo ship which went down just outside Ibiza Port last month after hitting an islet, spilling tons of fuel from its tanks.
